Save your money...Mine is just awful! I loved the picture of this item...I had just the place to put it in my home where it would look great. It does look great. It just hardly works. The whole thing only weighs a pound or two...this should have clued me in right away when unpacking it. The switches have an imprecise and awful feel and seem very delicate. The sound quality is very poor (Remember those less than $5 transistor radios?) and the reception is worse. Even the strongest stations in my area only come in with a great deal of fuzzy sound and you can always hear the radio stations near them in the back ground. I haven't bought anything electronic that was this bad in years. Don't be fooled by the good looks...in this case beauty really is only skin deep. Cute and retro! My son got this for Christmas and for some weird reason it would not always play when we pushed play for the cd....sometimes we had to push the button several times then push stop to get it to play...it would also switch to military time at random. These things happen even with the best of electronics, sometimes exchanges need to be made. We ordered another and returned the first one, we haven't had any problems and it has been working perfectly. It looks great in his room, and we love it! I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a cute retro style radio. My son loves cars and it goes perfectly in his room with all of his vintage car signs. We also plan to purchase it in pink for our daughter. Overall it is a great radio/cd player! P-E-R-F-E-C-T !! We bought the BLUE version of this for my son on his 5th birthday and cannot tell you how much he loves it. My son wanted a Disney Cars version, which was more expensive and a piece of junk... this goes well with the artwork from that movie- and is a much better investment for our money. He LOVED it. He has had it for about 6 months and it has been his most prized possession ever since. The alarm feature is nice and the fact that this will easily grow with him into adulthood. The sound quality is excellent, it is simple to use and very well designed. Any product that can stand up to frequent unsupervised use by my child gets a big thumbs up for quality and durability. The most striking feature of this radio though, is its design. It gets a lot of attention from visitors. It is a really cool item for anyone's bedside. Great gift idea- any little boy would be fascinated by this- and encouraged to discover music. Great idea for an adult as well. I'd personally love the pink one.

Timex T318S Easy to Read Alarm Clock Radio
From Timex

Amazon Sales Rank: #88670 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Timex
The Timex T318S includes a host of features designed for convenience and flexibility. The classical style of an analog clock plus the easy-to-read convenience of a digital display come together in the T318S. Two alarm times can be set for separate users. Choose to wake to your favorite radio station, or select from three different bell sounds. If you're having trouble sleeping, three relaxing nature sounds are also included to soothe you to sleep. Adjustable brightness makes for easy viewing in any light, and battery power backup assures you that you can always depend on it to wake you in the morning.
YOU'LL LOVE THIS CLOCK! From its retro good looks, to the astounding number of multiple functions for the price, this clock beats more expensive clocks with fewer options hands down! As a fan of analog clock faces that must be visible at night, the three level brightness feature is a blessing. Initially put off by reviews that called it complicated to program, I found the instruction booklet more than adequate to master the programming functions. The everyday, weekday and weekend alarm selections are phenomenal. No point in waking up on the weekends at your regular weekday time! This lil' clock is a keeper! At this price, buy several for your friends -- they'll enjoy falling asleep to the ocean sounds, and waking up GRADUALLY to the ever increasing volume of the sweet chimes. The radio works perfectly too! Digital display can be set to days of the week, so as not to confuse the eye with double clocks. Fantastic buy! The killer alarm clock This alarm clock has a brilliant feature that should have been standard years ago: the ability to set or disable different timed alarms for weekdays or weekends. The "fall asleep" ocean/woods sounds are just a bit too repeptious, but the gradually louder chamber-bells-wake-up sound is the best I've ever heard. The buttons are not that intuitive at first, but after a couple days I didn't find it harder than any other digital alarm clock. The lighted digital display and analog face can be set to low or bright light, and battery back-up allows me to sleep without the fear and worry of not being woken in time. I would definitely make this purchase again. Retro Look Combines with Ease of Use to make a Great Clock! I've only had it for a week, but I LOVE my new clock. I love its retro styling, which fits in wonderfully with the decor of our bedroom, and I love the fact that it combines an analog and digital clock into one.Easy to learn to use, easy to get going, etc. Great alarm, which grows louder the longer you wait to turn it off, etc. The only drawback I found was that it took me until last night to figure out how to get the clock's internal light to turn down so it didn't blind me in the night.Forget the naysayers, enjoy this clock!

NEAT TALKING ALARM MY SON LIKES IT BECAUSE IT HAS BUTTONS THAT MAKE IT TALK. IT IS NICE AND LOUD, TOO:) Speed, I am speed, now.....wake up! This obnoxious alarm clock certainly works. My daughter loves Mater & Lightning McQueen. Two years later and it is still working, despite how many times she plays the different sayings. The clock program is a little tricky, but other than that, this alarm clock has taken alot of abuse and still wakes...or works.

Seems to work just fine with the exception of the little cloud cartoon Cartoon of clouds doesn't change, but husband is a weather nut so he loves this thing. Outside temp doesn't always register I'm very happy with this product, despite the fact that it does not always register the outside temp. I get dashes instead of numbers every couple days, haven't figured out yet what may be interfering with it, but pushing the down arrow for a few seconds gets it searching for the signal again and it always registers when I do that. I live in a cold area and am hoping the lithium batteries really do let it register those temps below -4 degrees this winter (unless, better yet, we don't have those this year!). Good product for the money. Great item, everyone should have one!!!!!! This is a terrific product, everyone should have one of these. I has all the important things you need to know about the weather. Great buy too!

Very nice alarm clock for the money, good value What differentiates this alarm clock from the others? Quite a few things separate this clock from most of the pack. I have listed the noteworthy features of this clock below: 1. The battery backup assures you won't oversleep 2. There is a battery indicator so you know when to change the battery backup 3. You never need to reset the time when the power goes out. The clock is preset at the factor and has the correct time when you plug it in. You select from the following time zones (Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaskan, or Hawaiian) 4. You can set the clock for day light savings time and make leap year adjustments to keep the time and week on track 5. You can set the clock to have different times during the week and weekend all at one time 6. There is a dual alarm feature 7. There are many different options for what you will wake up to (Radio, Nature Sounds, or Buzzer) 8. You can adjust the illumination on the face if you like a dark room or a bright display 9. Four nature sounds (Ocean Surf, Birds, Brook, or Wind Chimes) 10. There is a timer that will turn off the nature sounds or radio in either 90, 60, 30 or 15 minutes so that you can fall asleep to sound 11. You can preset 18 radio stations For the money, this is a nice alarm clock. Very disappointing I bought one of these as I really liked the way it looked, and for the nature sound feature. It takes a bit of effort to set the settings, as the instructions are confusing, at best. The main problem, and the reason I will never buy a Timex clock radio again, is that after a few months, the volume began to get lower and lower, and the volume thumbwheel no longer worked, eventually, no sound at all. The clock worked fine. I called SDI and they were willing to replace it if I sent in the deffective unit, but when I weighed the cost of shipping, etc, it was'nt worth it. I called and expalined the problem to SDI Tech help, and they said they had no idea how this could happen. Believe it or not, I bought another one, because I liked the look and features so much, and after a few months, it had the exact same problem. No more. Very disappointing, beware. Difficult to use Junk 1. Very hard to set, you must read poor instruction manual carefully. I've had to dig out the instructions several times as near impossible to just look at clock then set. 2. I work rotating shift work so have to change alarm times often, takes a long time to move alarm. 3. Has 3 levels of back light on face, even on low setting the light is to bright so have to keep clock facing away from me. 4. Has radio, but again difficult to use, so I use nature/buzz alarm only. Now the bad stuff, worked OK for about 2 months but now: 1. Power button won't work so can't turn radio on. 2. The dimmer/snooze button works for snooze but I can no longer cycle through the 3 different light levels. 3. All 4 nature sounds are gone, when set they sound BUZZ alarm only. I've unplugged unit & pulled BATT's hoping to get unit to reset itself, but no luck. I'm very dissapointed with Timex. Very poor design. Poor quality. I will replace clock with a different brand.

Ford Thunderbird Retro Neon Alarm Clock Radio with CD Player - Red
From TELEMANIA

Get your morning motor running with this retro neon analog alarm clock. Styled after the classic 1950s Ford Thunderbird, it features a rectangular shape with classic knobs and detailing for a vintage look. Listen to your favorite tunes on the AM/FM radio or the top-loading CD player. Set the alarm to music or chime. Illuminated by a neon tube light. Includes a second hand and snooze option. Measures 7-1/2"H x 7"W x 7"D. Color: RED

Defective Product Nice idea, but poorly executed. I purchased for my son. The radio buzzes with a neon light noise, and the CD player unexpectedly comes on and off. I believe I have a defective model; but in reviewing other individuals who purchased this clock radio, some had the same experience. Looks are great. Just not well-engineered.

Denon S-52 Wireless Network Music System with Built-in Speakers and Alarm Clock
From Denon

Home Theater
Amazon Sales Rank: #17740 in Consumer Electronics Color: Black Brand: Denon Model: S52 Dimensions: 13.89 pounds
The Denon S-52 wireless network music system with built-in speakers and 2-alarm clock, one of Denon's first two networked audio products, delivers a smart way to play music from your computer throughout the home. The WiFi certified S-52 offers the ability to stream music either via Ethernet, or wirelessly, from internet radio sources and other network attached storage devices such as PC or Mac computers on the network. It also features a USB port that allows users to connect USB mass storage devices such flash drives, MP3 players or USB hard drives. The Denon S-52 features a built-in dockfor iPod® for easy drop-in functionality
Good start but needs more flexibility. Overall, I'm satisfied with my Denon S-52. It's very well-built and feels very solid (it weighs over 14 pounds!) with impressive build quality. The WLAN antenna on the back is detachable so you can use a different Wi-Fi antenna if you need extra range. For just popping in an iPod or CD and playing it, this thing works like a dream. It supports CD-R's burned with files (like .MP3's or .WMA files) and thumb drives work well. It won't span sub-directories for continuous play so you have to dump all your files in the same directory if you want it to play everything continuously. The CD mechanism is among the quietest I've ever heard, and the loading mechanism is _very_ smooth. I've seen high-dollar CD transports that have done worse. The large clock display is easily readable. Alarms clearly indicate their wakeup time on the display whenever they are enabled. The separate, push-to-latch buttons for each alarm make switching alarms easy and fool-proof. The device sounds quite good on its own -- Denon clearly spent time and money designing the speaker enclosures to be relatively free of unwanted resonances, and the speakers have adequate high-frequency response. Denon uses Audyssey bass-boosting technology to increase apparent bass which works relatively well but unfortunately is undefeatable should you hook up a subwoofer. Adding a powered subwoofer is easy because of the mono RCA (phono-jack) output on the back but adjusting it is difficult because the Audyssey technology sounds muddy when accompanied by a subwoofer. I would recommend a subwoofer with variable frequency, volume, and phase controls -- switches won't give you the adjustability you need to blend the subwoofer with the radio. The Denon only gave me the option to wake to CD (including CD-R) or Internet radio. It didn't even offer me FM or USB thumb drive. It's possible I missed something -- the manual seems complete until you get the thing on your table and start asking detailed questions, and then you realize they left a lot out. The clock auto-setting feature works well only if you have a local SNMP-enabled device that keeps (or gets) proper time. If you don't, the Denon will "auto-set" to the first one it sees. If the SNMP device it happens to find on the Internet doesn't have its time set properly, your time will also be wrong. It won't tell you or let you tell it where to look for the SNMP server, either. I wound up enabling the SNMP server in my access point solely to auto-set the time on this clock! It would be helpful if it would look for an NTP server instead since it only wants the time. The only way I found to reliably get it to "re-auto-set" the time (if it got it wrong the first time) was to have it look for updated firmware, which seems to cause a total system reset. You do have the option of manually setting the time, which seems to disable the auto-setting (but the manual is silent on this issue). The only way I've found to play music back from a PC is to use Windows Media Player as a server. I had no luck trying to get it to play directly from a shared drive. I had hoped this would work with my other network music players from [...], but it doesn't seem to recognize SqueezeCenter as a music server. Setting the S-52 up for a protected wireless network was about as troublesome as I could imagine. It insists on having you enter your network key (for WPA or WEP) one character at a time with a jog wheel, after which it _immediately_ "masks" it with an asterisk. And since the display is only 20 characters or so long, once you're around character 25, you'd better not lose your place! Also, it doesn't give you the ability to enter a space (ASCII 32) (incidentally this tidbit is also missing from the manual), so don't use them in your key. Forget about being able to correct mistakes -- while it's technically possible, you'll never figure out where in the string you are or which asterisk is hiding the character you need to change. They really need to re-think how this works -- WPA keys can be up to 63 characters in length and future revisions will only get longer. The Denon saves all settings to some sort of non-volatile memory. It has no battery backup if it loses power, but it remembers what time it was when it was lost and it looks for the SNMP server to get the time as soon as power is restored. This makes power failures relatively painless, but it might not be a bad idea to have a backup battery-powered clock if waking up is critical and you live in an area with unreliable power. Not a bad first try from Denon. All the hardware seems to be there -- most of the problems I had can be attributed to poor firmware design or a lack of flexibility in options. Assuming it's possible to defeat the Audyssey EQ in firmware with a future revision, Denon could address each of these problems in a future update. Until then, this unit is quite usable even if it doesn't live up to its potential. At last, a total digital music solution This product exceeded my expectations. Here are details not highlighted in the product info: A) Sound quality I compared it with a friend to his Bose Wave system. We both prefered Denon, which had richer bass and fuller range. Both systems created an impressive stereophonic spread throughout the room if placed in the right position. Denon also compared favorably to Tivoli Radio (but Tivoli is mono). You can add an external subwoofer to this Denon (the external speaker port is for "mono" only so it is only practical for a subwoofer). B) Music Input This is its strongest feature. The Denon is more versatile than other shelf-systems (Bose, Polk i-Sonic, Tivoli, Boston Acoustics, Cambridge Soundworks) and even outperforms the expensive Sonos (it does what Sonos does and more... you could spend thousands putting a Sonos port with expensive speakers in each room, or just buy the Denon and move it from room to room - it's portable!). It will switch between input-sources seamlessly with the push of a button. For toggling to your favorite track or folder, Denon has a highly readable screen which displays 3-lines (e.g. 3 folders, 3 track names). The blue screen has 3-dim levels and can be read from across a small room (because it enlarges the selected text). Toggling this menu is easy either through a button on the remote or a faster dial on the machine. Here's what it can play: 1) Ipod through a dock (better sound quality than an aux line) 2) Other digital media through front-loaded USB port (this works just like the ipod dock, optimizing sound quality and allowing you to control the folders/song titles through Denon's screen. I plugged my Creative Zen in and it instantly recognized all the folders/tracks. Even simpler, you could copy media files to a memory stick and plug the stick in). 3) Your computer's hard drive (If your computer can transmit a wireless signal - which is

Looks nice; impossible to use My mother-in-law bought this for my 5-year-old son for Christmas. It's a nice looking clock and sounds decent. However, it is virtually unusable. It has, I think, 7 cones on it for control buttons. However, you have to use exactly two of them to set the time, the alarm time, the alarm on/off and the date. I'm an engineer and it takes me time to figure out how to do it. There's no way my 5-year-old can. And for him, he'll just hit the cones and change something and then you have to reset everything. Also, with the radio, it's not AM, only FM, despite the description. And there are no presets or even an indicator of what channel you're on. All you have is a Scan button. Hope you don't miss the channel you were looking for. This is just a very poorly designed clock. It looks nice, but I can't imagine they let anyone try to use it before they put it in mass production.

Fun clock for little Cars lovers My daughters (5 and 7) receieved this alarm clock for Christmas. It is easy for them to turn off in the morning. The display is nice and bright. They love to push the demo button which goes through the 5 different Mater sayings. My only complaint is that it would be hard for a little one to set by themselves, since the buttons are a bit hard to push and they are too far apart for little hands. But sometimes you don't want your kids to be able to set their alarm for 3am! Compared to the other Cars alarm clocks on the market, I'd say this one is the best. Enjoyed playing with this My fiance is really into mater as he is a tow truck driver. Loved the sound effects. Cant wait to give it to him for Xmas 3 bad ones in a row I bought one last night at Toys R Us. Nothing worked on it, even after I put fresh batteries in it. I took it back today and the clerk and I tried the remining three they had on the shelf, none of them worked. Clock is all scrambled, no sounds from radio or voice, nothing. Nice looking units, but just wished they worked!

Lots of features for a little price............ I really like the "ramp-up" alarm tone; it helps me wake up without feeling startled. It's a very firm beep tone which increases in volume. I believe it would wake up even heavy sleepers at it's peak sound level. It reaches the loud level about 40 seconds after it starts beeping. The forward and backward buttons make it easy to set the time and alarm time. Another nice feature is programming your own snooze-button time. It has a low profile and looks attractive. I have minimal space on the headboard, and this fits very well, being only about 6-1/2" wide. The green LED display is bright enough if you like it bright. This model has a low-brightness switch, which dims the display if you want. It is still easily readable on the low setting too. Don't expect to tune in many weaker radio stations, after all, this is a lower priced radio . The speaker is mono, and just good enough to fall asleep to. One thing that does bother me a bit......below a certain volume the radio cuts out completely. I like to play the radio at very low volumes and cannot do that on this one. LOOK NO FURTHER If you are reading this review, you may have already spent hours looking for a mysteriously elusive product: the decent clock radio. Look no further. I spent months searching for clock radio that would fit my (seemingly simple) needs. I finally found this one, put it to the test and am impressed with the results. The product is so good that I'm writing my first-ever review. I hope you find it helpful. Product pros: - numbers are big enough to read without glasses - soft green doesn't illuminate the whole bedroom - dimmer switch available - grad-u-wake feature: the only buzzer I've experienced that isn't jarring/ugly - small footprint on the nightstand - programmable nap & snooze durations - dual alarms can both be set to radio or buzzer - adequate radio quality - simple, easy, inexpensive Product cons: - none Finally someone got all the features right. See for yourself! Bonsoir. Less is more: The Perfect Alarm Clock I have been looking for a good clock for years, and found this here. Here is what I like about it: * Large numbers readable from the other side of the bed without lighting up the room. * The indispensable nap function (absent on many higher models). * Simple styling does not add to or alter decor. * Easy to set without 15 buttons like my last clock. * Any button works as snooze. What is special about a 9-minute snooze? * Gradual alarm volume starts soft and increases over time, no more fire-alarms! * Two independent alarms to avoid resetting for a special wake-up time. * The radio tunes well and sounds adequate, but who wants to fall asleep or wake up to jarring commercials? * The price! $10 on amazon is a great value. This is perfect to use as an alarm. If you want a sound system to play music, consider a separate sound system, but still use this as your alarm.

blinded by the light You won't have to worry about waking up on time because you'll never get to sleep; the LED display is so bright on low setting that it illuminates the whole room to the point it seems an alien abduction is in progress. All other aspects of this unit are fine, with the exception that you still have to reset the clock after unplugging/power failure, even with a 9V installed. Why, oh why can't Sony make one of their excellent basic models with a blue LED display?? Alarm Clock Radio Just wanted a simple looking and working white radio alarm clock for my daughter's bedroom. The description never said it actually has an outside the unit FM antenna wire. Could barely hear the radio - even though it was next to a window, and we tried many positions with the clock and the antenna wire. All other radios we have with internal antenna work great in the same location. Looks really cute, unfortunately works terrible.

Too bright I was on the hunt to find a digital alarm clock where I could wake up to the radio, but didn't want a super-bright display. The blue light was way too bright for me, even on the dimmest setting, so I returned it. The digital tuner was great though.

Good, but.. I bought this item because of it style and listed functions. It does look good, but the device is a little difficult to get used to. Just about all the control buttons are flush mounted because of this style, and as a result are sometimes hard to locate, especially when you are in a morning funk when the alarm is going off. The all-important "snooze" button is a classic case of this. It is also recessed, and you can easily miss it, smudging the beatiful smooth surfaces in your attempts to snooze it. All in all, it's OK, it is just that I bought it as a daily use alarm clock, and it is taking me a while to come to grips w/ it. Pretty, decent speakers, lousy alarm I've had my new Philips clock for about 2 months now. It's a lot smaller than my Sony Dream Machine, which I loved for it's speakers/audio as well as the easy-to-use features like snooze, nap and switching from standard to daylight savings time. But enough about that old clock... I purchased this clock for several reasons, but primarily for my iPod (there is a non-iPod version of this clock). For an alarm clock, I'm happy with the audio quality. It's small, it looks sleek and it's relatively easy to set up in terms of selecting the iPod for the alarm. Additionally it includes 2 alarm settings that you can associate with 1 day of the week, every day or Mon-Fri. As an alarm clock, it's not so wonderful for two reasons. The buttons, including power, snooze and volume, feel cheap and are not easy to push/press (in order to push a button, I have to apply equal pressure on the other side of the unit). And as far as I can tell, the snooze only works for up to 30 minutes and then it automatically shuts itself off. I'll keep this clock for awhile since it wasn't cheap and I didn't keep the packaging to return it. Or I'll bring it into work as an iPod player. Then I'll seriously consider buying a Sony for my next alarm clock. Decisions, Decisions There is a great deal of difference between this Phillips Clock iPod and the Philips AJ3231 Mirror Finish Clock Radio. Like the smaller version, there is a nice front surface with a reflective mirror and the time shining through `yellow' with a nice (adjustable) brightness control. Other than that, this is a completely different animal. There are two small speakers on each side of the clock that are typical in sound for a clock/radio, in that they have no bass. The volume control is not a wheel but a (+) button for increase and a (-) button for decrease in sound. The alarms are set using buttons on the top for both alarms A and B. The back has push buttons (+ and -) for tuning to stations. You can preset going forward and backward. There is also a `time set autoscan' button. Below this in the back is where you choose to WAKE to your iPod, FM radio or buzzer (no AM). The `sleep' button is on the right side and very small. I am used to a BIG button on top of my old alarm clock that I can just slam without opening my eyes. No such luck here. The iPod dock folds out from the lower front and its rather cheaply made. It will fit all iPods and if you have something other than an Apple iPod, there is a male/male cord that fits in the back for another MP3 device. The dock itself has a control for play/pause and forward/backward song skip buttons. I was surprised that with all the various buttons and controls there was not a space for a 9-volt battery in case of outage. There is one on the cheaper model of the Philips AJ3231 Mirror Finish Clock Radio. Also, the cord is detachable from the back of the clock. Considering the price difference between the two, it makes sense that you can have your iPod dock for charging and listening to tunes. As in both clocks, the buttons are not intuitive and take some time to set up, meaning you will do it once, but if the power goes out, you'll be pulling out the instruction manual again. I think its a toss-up with the iPod being the deciding factor.

Does not work! My daughter received this for her birthday a few months ago. We have been trying to get it to work ever since. The only thing that works is the clock. The alarm does not go off with or without an MP3 player. We have tried three different brands of MP3 players...none worked. I wish we still had the reciept so we could return it. It is a worthless piece of junk! Didn't Work Got this for my neice for Christmas. It didn't work. Changed the batteries. The sound would skip. She also received a regular Hannah Montana alarm clock. It didn't work either. They both feel extremely cheap. Both going back to the store & getting her something better. Great MP3 for a six year old and some adults... Set up was easy. Worked great. You change songs on your ipod/Mp3 player. Only con is sound is a little muffly sounding. I had to try out after reading reviews other people wrote. I like it, I am happy with it.

Timex T303T Atomic Time Clock Radio With Dual Alarm
From Timex

This clock's hard to beat It's great to be able to see other customer's comments on a product because they'll tell you about things the manufacturer wouldn't. In the case of this product though, there seem to be an inordinate number of whiners who have bought it. As a result, I almost didn't buy this clock. When I received it yesterday, my expectations weren't all that high. I just figured I'd have a clock radio to replace my old, defunct one. I was pleasantly surprised to find that:- the sound is good (it's just a clock radio, not a home stereo, remember)- FM reception is good, and I live in an area with very poor reception. (There is a small external FM antennae, but even without it, the reception is good.)- the atomic clock setting actually worked, even though I live over a 1,000 miles from the WWVB station in Boulder, CO. I didn't get signal immediately, but the first night it synched up as advertised. (The first page of the instructions points out that reception is subject to interference from other strong radio signals, and that areas like the Mid-Atlantic Coast (Boston) may experience poor reception and may not receive the signal until after midnight when interference is weakest. It also says that locations within steel high-rise buildings may not receive the signal - duh.)- the display backlight is fine . It has a low and high setting. At the low setting I didn't find it too bright. (If I did, I think turning the face away from the bed would surely take care of the problem!)- the controls are pretty intuitive. After reading through a couple of pages on the controls, it took just seconds to set everything. If you can figure out a toaster, you shouldn't have a problem with this. Also the control layout is pretty easy to work even in the dark, with the relevant controls all located on top where you can easily find them, although it wouldn't hurt if the buttons were a bit larger. So for 40 bucks this is a pretty decent clock radio, even without the atomic clock whiz-bang - with it, it verges on being very cool indeed. All you want in an alarm clock-radio This item is perfect. First and foremost a clock that never has to be manually set and always displays the exact time, date and day. Dual alarms which are easy to set, even in the dark. Sleep timer, snooze, radio, alarm. Sturdy construction. Great price. Nothing more needs to be said. Would be an excellent christmas, birthday or housewarming present. This Clock Rocks This clock works just as it should. After putting in the 2 AAA battteries for back up. This unit starting searching for the Atomic Clock Radio Staion in Colorado. I had very good signal, even in Michigan. In less than 15 minutes the unit had gotten the correct date and time. With a large back lit display it is easy to read. The backlit display is a bit too bright, but that is its only downfall. I am very pleased with size and the workings of this unit. I will not have to worry about my son changing the time on my clock anymore, this clock will correct it self. A must have.

Sangean RCR-5 Digital AM/FM Clock Radio
From Sangean America, Inc.

Sangean's latest digital RCR-5 AM/FM clock radio is as attractive as it is unique offering features and performance generally found in the most expensive clock radios. Dual Alarm Timers for both "Waking Up to Radio" and/or "Waking up to HWS Buzzer" at different times for week days, weekends, daily or just once. Has both "Sleep" and "Nap" and "Snooze" timers if you need a little extra sleep. "Aux" input allows listening to your CD or any audio device through the RCR-5 radio.
Amazon Sales Rank: #1213 in Consumer Electronics Color: White Brand: Sangean America, Inc. Model: RCR-5 Dimensions: 2.00" h x 5.57" w x 7.00" l, 1.20 pounds

Most Impressive! I have nothing but praise for the Sangean RCR-5 clock radio. Specifically, here are the most noteworthy aspects of this truly amazing product: Display Here is where the RCR-5 truly shines, as it incorporates a backlit LCD with adjustable intensity: one may adjust the backlight to suit your needs, so you have a perfectly legible, yet not too bright display (at night) which can never be "washed out", even in direct sunlight. The display even has a clever feature whereby it will illuminate to full intensity when any of the buttons are pressed, after which it returns to the user's preset intensity after ten seconds. As you can see from the product photos, the display is of a soft, warm color, most conducive to a good sleeping environment; other clock radios using bright blue or green illumination, IMHO, should be avoided if you want to get any sleep. Auxiliary Input Very useful for listening to my podcasts at night; when an external source is attached, the Band button will cycle through AM/FM/AU; when none is attached, only AM/FM are available, thereby eliminating "clutter" for those who do not wish to enable this feature. (Note: I'm old-school, and prefer using this method over a "Dockable" iPod solution, as I prefer to completely run my iPod's battery source to zero before recharging...) Flexibility in Programming Only found on more expensive clock radios, this model will allow you to use the "Sleep" feature to listen to a particular station (or podcast with the Auxiliary feature) at night, and then to wake to radio on a different station. In addition, all alarms allow Daily, Mon-Fri, or Single, with the Audible Alarm using a gentle "ramp-up" feature. Reception and Speaker Quality The radio's receiver portion of this product is very good, rivaled by only my Sony short wave receiver (a great radio, by the way!); what looks like a 3-inch speaker provides a very warm, intelligible output, very suitable for the spoken word, adequate for music. If you need a strong system for powerful music, I would suggest purchasing an additional desktop speaker setup (such as for a computer) which can be attached to the headphone output by means of a standard mini-jack connection. Finally, a no-nonsense Sleep function Sangean has cleverly incorporated the Sleep function into the Power button (which is gently illuminated when the radio's off); to turn the radio on or off, press the button. To use the Sleep feature, press and hold the same button to select up to 120 minutes. Simple, effective, "it just works". Final Recommendation Well, what more can I say? This product works for me (and I'm purchasing three more for gifts) and has a lot going for it, including high value (very reasonably priced!). Is there anything that you should be aware of? Yes: > As described in the previous customer's entry, setting the alarm may require a few extra key-strokes, as this product offers many options when it comes to waking by either the alarm or the radio; if you do not need all of these features, you may wish to consider something of simpler means. That being said, it took me only about 22 seconds to set the alarm; for me, it was relatively intuitive and logical. > The built-in battery back up feature only works for about ten minutes worth of backup, according to the manual; in my neck of the woods, this is not a big issue, but should be noted if you experience many nighttime blackouts where you are located. > Even though this model is referred to as an "RCR-5", it should be noted that it does not employ an automatic time synchronization feature as is found on Sangean's higher end clock radios. (Not a big issue for me, and may actually be desirable for those of us who prefer to set our clocks 5, 10, or 15 minutes fast to "keep us on time"!) I hope this helps you in making the right decision! All the best! High Quality Digital Clock Radio that looks like one too! I started realizing the quality of this radio as soon as I held the box it came in. It's well packaged in heavy cardboard throughout. Take the radio out and look it over; you can tell this is not your everyday clock radio you find in all the stores. It's built solid and the buttons and controls feel solid. The sound is much better than any clock radio I've ever owned in this price range. The display is easy to see from all angles and not too brite. The amber is soft on your eyes unlike some of the blues and greens out there. Setting the alarms is slightless less intuitive then it could be but it's easy once you do it a few times (the reason for the 4 out of 5 stars). Products like this are few and far between these days. High quality and does what it is made to do very well without looking like an alien aircraft with unessessary bells and whistles. Very possibly the best engineered clock radio for under $50. Im very happy with my purchase. a QUALITY clock radio... I have to say that I'm quite impressed by the QUALITY of the Sangean RCR-5 clock radio. Quite a bit of great detail has already been mentioned in a fine way by a previous reviewer. I just have to say that I'm really impressed at how clear the radio reception is...absolutely NO drift, it locks onto the radio frequency and stays there! And the sound from the speaker (even if it is just a single speaker) is rather impressive...I've never heard a speaker sound so clear, crisp, and distinct, whether it be music or spoken word! I also like how smooth the volume control feels. It keeps great time with an easy-to-view display, and wakes you up comfortably with its "humane waking system." Some people have noted that the settings for the clock are too complex and complicated, but I frankly didn't experience any problems in that sense. Of course, it does not have the atomic clock updating, nor does it have a built-in cd player, but it does have the auxillary input, if you wanted to connect a cd player or mp3 player. Overall, I have to say that certainly alot of thought has gone into the designing of the Sangean RCR-5...this certainly is NO ordinary clock radio...it's a finely-crafted instrument!

I've bought 6 of these and am buying more Great product. Indestructable clamshell close, lightweight, and small for travel, a new battery lasts for a year or two, loud alarm, big numbers and nighttime visibility, snooze seems to keep working no matter how many times you hit it, am and fm work fine. I've bought 6 of these in the past, given most of them away to guests who used them and really liked them, and logged on again today to buy a few more. I've bought dozens of different small travel alarm clocks over the past 30 years (which I also use for my main home alarm clock--I don't like switching when I travel), and this is by far the best ever. I'm buying more so that I don't ever run out--I worry they'll quit making it someday. Never have known any of them to miss an alarm, in spite of that other review to the contrary. travel alarm Nice little alarm. Tinny sound from the radio but can't expect much from such a small speaker. Light to see time is handy, bright enough to use as a small flashlight. Times for alarm and time are easy to set. Up to now I am satisfied. surprisingly good little radio and clock The radio obviously has no low end, but is crisp, clear, and loud. Pulls in many stations, sharply, on AM and FM, and tuning doesn't backlash on you. Slips into a shirt pocket. The open-lid/reset-radio/snooze/LED light button is really clever. Very easy to set. This is a great rig for waking to news or music on travel. I notice some others had trouble. This one's OK. I'd say..give it a good testing right away when you get it. If it works you will be pleased going forward.

Hello Kitty Stereo Clock Radio/ Recharging Station for iPod I love this stereo/alarm clock. It fits ANY iPod which is nice if i decide to get a new one. IT is easy to program and use and its light weight. The LCD is nice and bright so I can see the time in the middle of the night and the sound quality is really good. The price is very good for all the features like the radio, alarm clock, charging, and stereo functions. Other items like this are around $100, definitely a good buy, I got mine for about $30. Great multipurpose product I love this thing - it's one of two Ipod docks in my house - this one was much more inexpensive and I prefer it much more. This one pulls double duty for me since it not only is my alarm clock but also serves as my alarm clock. It sounds great and is a well-made product. Not the best iPod radio out there We got this for my daughter. She loves it because it has Hello Kitty on it. But it drives me nuts for a few reasons: the display flickers constantly now (we've had it for about a year), and the radio stations drift (it'll be set to 99.1, say, and then, after a few hours or so, will be at 99.2 or 3). But it does sound decent, and is fairly easy to use.

Wake Up to Your Favorite Music and Photos Offering the ultimate in flexibility, the Philips AJL303 Clock Radio awakens you to your choice of nature sounds, radio, your own music or a traditional alarm buzzer. You can also display your favorite photo as the background image on the 3-1/2-inch color LCD screen and watch photo slideshows set to music. Start your day off right by waking up to a treasured photo, your favorite tune or the sounds of nature. It's perfect for the bedside, but also fits attractively on your office desk. No matter what your alarm clock needs, the Philips AJL303 Clock Radio has it all. Wake to your own music, radio, an alarm buzzer or even sounds from nature
Very Good Alarm Clock This little Phillips alarm clock is a jack of all trades. It is a clock/alarm, FM radio, LCD picture viewer, and even an MP3 player. But like most multifunction products it does have its flaws, the biggest being the clock is not always clearly visible when in picture viewing mode. *** Positive Points Include: *** - Easy to use menus and just enough buttons to make it simple to use - Radio and mp3 playback have sound quality that is surprisingly decent for its size - Can have it randomly scroll through your pictures or pause on any single photo - Screen can be dimmed or turned off completely - Has 2 independent alarms - Alarm sounds are really soothing and include forest, birds chirping, ocean, and church bells in addition to standard buzzing, radio, or MP3 playback. - Good design with small size and attractive looks - Has a internal backup so you wont lose your settings if the power goes out *** Negative Points Include: *** - LCD screen is a bit low in resolution but more than adequate for most people - Clock can be a bit difficult to read with pictures playing in the background. To get around this just load a picture of a wall and click on pause. - Mirrored bezel attracts fingerprints Overall: This little alarm clock does pretty much everything. If it had better visibility of the clock and maybe a slightly higher resolution screen this would be 5 stars. Nice radio, the rest is just OK This is an ambitious attempt at combining a clock radio, LCD picture frame, and an MP3 music player. It's very sleek and modern looking and is small enough to fit on just about any bedside table. Here are my observations: On the positive side- The radio is actually the most successful component with clear sound and a very good FM station auto-program function. On the not-so-positive side- The LCD screen is fairly low resolution, which means that no matter how good your photos are, they will look pretty mediocre on the little screen. The choices for clock/picture display are rather limited and the screen does not have a dimming function. The biggest drawback to this little clock is that there is no backup battery to keep the clock set in the event of a power outage. Overall, this one rates in the "close, but no cigar" category of clock/radio/photo frame/MP3 players. Affordable alarm clock radio works as a digital photo frame, but.. I have always wanted to have a digital photo frame. And I finally got a chance to use the Philips AJL303 LCD clock radio that can also work as a digital photo frame. It is an alarm clock radio that has a 3.5 inch color LCD screen and can play MP3 files from the memory card (SD or SDHC type). After the initial setup, the first thing I did was that I copied my favorite MP3s and pictures to the SD card since the Philips AJL303 does not have any internal memory to store music or pictures. As I expected, it plays my music and pictures flawlessly. You can listen your music while the slideshow is playing. The one thing I have not found so far is that I cannot make the slideshow going while the radio is playing. When the radio is playing, it only shows the frequency of the radio station and I cannot listen radio and enjoy pictures at the same time. So I mostly use this device as an MP3 player to see the slideshow at the same time. The size of the 3.5 inch screen is fine by me. I use a GPS and a PDA that both have a 3.5' screens. However the picture quality is little bit disappointing. Pictures look very rough and the saturation of the color is not satisfiable. I do not think it is because of the resolution (320*240). I have a PDA with same resolution and same size screen and my PDA shows far better pictures. I know that I cannot expect too much on a $60 device, though. The size of the analog clock is small and I wish there is an option to have an analog clock that is big as the size of the screen. From a distance, I hardly recognize the time, so I had to switch to a digital clock for better visibility. Also, if you are planning to use a microSDHC card with an SD card adapter, the Philips AJS303 might not read your card. I have many SD, SDHC and microSDHC cards at my home and the Philips cannot read one of my microSDHC card with an SD adapter made by Transcend. It reads all my SD and SDHC cards fine though. As an alarm clock radio, it serves its purposes. I love to wake up with the music I like and the reception of FM channels are just fine. The menu is not that intuitive, however, once you get the hang of it, it is OK to use. The lack of a backup battery might be the biggest drawback of this alarm clock radio with a digital photo frame. Once you lose the power, you should set everything again. Now, my 9 year old daughter is using the Philips AJL303. It seems like she really loves this and she does not have any plan to return this to me. If the Philips AJL303 has a backup battery and better picture quality, I would give 5 stars.

Sangean's RCR-22 Clock Radio is the atomic clock radio you can set once and forget. It connects to the atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado to set the most accurate time available. Once the clock is set you can program the dual alarms to wake to your favorite AM or FM station. Take advantage of the Humane Waking System that begins with a low volume beep and gradually increases in intensity to slowly wake you instead of receiving a firm jolt that others provide. There is also a handy sleep timer that allows you to fall asleep listening to your favorite radio station from 15 minutes up to 2 hours. You can also connect your iPod or a CD player to the auxiliary input to enjoy your favorite soothing sounds CD or digital music collection to fall asleep.
Top notch alarm clock - manual could use some work though I was looking for a high-quality alarm clock after about 12 years with an unimpressive Sony Dreammachine. This clock delivered on that front, and unlike most consumer electronics devices I've purchased in the past several years, it is clear that lots of thought was put into this device (and very little into the manual). PROS: There are tons of little nuances that the manual does not detail that I've discovered using the clock for a few weeks. For example the display can be dimmed with a dial on the bottom (which on my unit did not take effect until my alarm goes off the first time). The clock remains dimmed at your preset level, but goes to full brightness when the alarm goes off, making the clock easier to find. Combined with the pleasing blue light and the HWS (makes the alarm bell go from soft to loud) it's really nice to wake up to. Another thoughtful touch is that alarm indicators only light within 24 hours of your alarm. Either alarm can be set to go off on particular days, with any combination of Su-Sa set for each alarm (i.e. alarm1 can be set for Monday, Thursday and Sunday, no weekday/weekend restrictions like some others). The alarm indicators however only light up when your alarm will ring the next morning. Very nice. Other functions like the snooze, nap timers, etc. all work well. Like most alarms you need some time to figure out how it works, but after a few mornings most functions were intuitive. The radio functions well, and pulls in way more stations than the Dreammachine. The speaker is fine, that is to say neither exceptionally good or exceptionally poor. If I want the ultimate music experience, I have an expensive stereo for that. The clock is a true atomic time clock (not just a "preset" clock like many others). I don't know all the nuances of atomic cock synchronization, but the weather and location of the antenna seem to affect the two atomic clocks I have at home. Try moving the antenna towards the window if you have problems. CONS It is nicer than average plastic and construction, but still not going to win any design awards. I can't figure out why all alarm clock designs are frozen in 1992. The manual was clearly written by a bunch of engineers. It is no nonsense, and explains how to set/use everything, but does not mention any of the usability features I noted above. For example if it's Monday and you set an alarm for thursday, You might wonder why the alarm indicators do not all light up. No mention at all in the manual. I thought the clock was broken since the dimmer did not function until the first time an alarm went off. Again, no mention in the manual of what turned out to be a very nice feature, and one I almost returned the clock for! Another example is the unwieldly "Time Machine" antenna for the atomic clock. It is big and odd looking, but fits nicely to the back of the clock. Again, no mention in the manual save for a single line drawing. When I initially plugged the clock in, all kinds of crytic numbers flashed on the display while it synced the time, again, no mention of what was happening or why in the manual. The manual does tell you how to DO everything, but does not explain WHY certain things work the way they do, or explain the various nice features someone clearly took time to think through. Overal a great buy, especially for something you'll likely use every day for 5-15 years. I would like to see a better manual, autodimming of the display (it is BRIGHT when set to max), Sangean using a designer that is somewhat current, and perhaps a user manual rewrite, other than that, this clock works very well and will be on my nightstand for years to come. I agonized over what to put on my nightstand (everything from Bose to Timex) and am very happy with my choice. Good clock but room for improvement As a previous owner of the Sangean RCR-1 I was a bit disapointed to see that many features were omitted. I realize that this clock is really based on the RCR-2 and not the model that I'm comparing it against. That said my observations on this clock are as follows. 1. The new clock display is a vast improvement over the old one. It's very easy to read from any angle and it can be manually dimmed. However I feel that there still exists room for improvement with the display. I feel that Sangean should have included a photosensor to automatically adjust the display brightness according to ambient lighting conditions. I've had this option on many other clocks costing much less and it's an awesome feature to have. I also feel that they should have kept the outgoing models display size. The larger display was able to show more information at a glance. For instance the RCR-1 and RCR-2 were able to display the date while the alarm's are active. The RCR-22 will not do this. With the new unit you must press the date button to display the information. Also missing is the dual color display of the RCR-1. When the alarm on the RCR-1 activated the display would change color from blue to amber. That feature no longer exists on this model which was a bit of a disapointment. 2. The lack of a battery backup is a serious oversight. I am aware that it has a super capacitor which will hold the time for up to an hour in the event of a power failure. However, a battery backup will hold the time for up to a year AND still be able to sound the buzzer alarm during a power failure. Sony has this feature as well as many other brands on the market today. 3. Another serious oversight is the lack of Humane Waking System (HWS)when the alarm is set to radio mode. This clock features HWS in buzzer mode only. My old RCR-1 has HWS in radio mode and I really miss having the radio volume gradually ramp up to ease me out of my slumber. This new radio simply turns on the radio to the preset volume and blasts you awake. 4. This clock now features a much improved method to activate or deactivate the alarm. You simply push the alarm button and hold it for a few seconds to activate the alarm. The button will illuminate red to show the alarm is active. It also has a redundant indicator in the display. 5. Sangean is known for their excellent radio reception and this unit lives up to the hype. It easily pulls in distant stations and delivers drift free reception. The sound quality is above average for a clock radio and will not disapoint. Now for the items on my wish list for a future product. 1. Add an HD Radio Tuner. HD radio is catching on and there are a lot of good stations that this can't receive. 2. Add Radio Data System (RDS) to the radio. 3. Add NOAA weather radio to alert you of possible severe weather 4. Photo sensor display dimmer to automatically adjust to ambient light 5. Battery Backup (Sangean this is a must have feature!) 6. HWS for the radio mode of the alarm 7. Larger display 8. Stereo speakers 9. CD Player. 10. Improved alarm programming to allow for different times to be set for each day of the week. This clock does allow you to program a random day pattern giving it more flexibility than most but it could be taken to the next level. Heck as long as I'm wishing why not put all these features in a table radio and you'll have a winner. Conclusion, This radio adds a much improved display that makes it easier to live with than the previous models. However several features have been ommitted that should have been left in place. For this reason I am unable to give it more than 3 stars. Most people will be perfectly happy with this clock radio as it is. As for me I'm always looking for that elusive clock radio that address ALL of my needs so the search continues. Alarm Clock: The Next Generation I checked out a lot of alarm clocks and this one stood out above the rest. What was initially important to me was an alarm clock that had a 'digital tuner' so the frequency wouldn't drift resulting in no alarm sounding. Not only does this clock meet this need, but it also will default to the buzzer if the station fades or goes off the air! I also wanted a clock that had both an up AND down button to adjust time. This clock also meets this criterion, however, the capacitor backup, the self correcting time feature and its dual alarm system minimizes the need for adjustments. It also has a button to reset the clock to DST and back. Why doesn't every clock have this? Soon after I received the clock, I could tell that a lot of thought had gone into its design. In addition to the features listed, I found some nice surprises. It's meant to be operated in the dark and by a sleepy head. When you want to put it in snooze mode, you can hit ANY button on the top to activate it. When you want to turn it off, you can easily find the 'off' button in the dark using the side 'posts' as a guide. Each alarm button will light when that specific alarm will go off within 24 hrs (along with displaying the alarm time) assuring you that all is set. And that's nice, because with it's multi-day and dual alarm system, you rarely need to set it. The five minute snooze time is a bit short for me. An ajustable snooze time would be nice addition. I would also prefer a digital volume control versus the knob to avoid accidental volume changes. But overall, it looks great, it out performs the competition and has my recommendation. I've actually invited a few friends to my bedroom to show off....my new alarm clock!

Cool little clock..... I had the same issue as one of the other reviewers where my volume knob did not work... so I returned to Amazon and ordered from another vendor believing Amazon received a bad lot. I was correct, second clock worked perfectly. This is a "Great" little clock radio... easy to use and to set alarms. Separate dial knobs in the rear make setting the time and two alarms a breeze. My wife loves the ease of use as well. She never used the old clock ever though it was dual alarm (she did not want to learn the crazy process of setting the old clock) but now she is always using this one. Thing is so simple you barely need a manual but don't worry its there and fairly easy to follow. Lots of options on this clock, alarm from radio to buzzer that slow escalates in volume, radio has digital tuning. Line option for MP3 player and variable brightness for clock. Clock can be analog or digital. My wife likes this as well, she thinks its cute. Snooze and sleep timer are programmable and the alarm even works if power is out ... though have not tested this feature yet. In short, the clock with its small footprint was exactly what we wanted... only reason why I did not give it highest rating was due to first unit with faulty volume knob. Buy this clock radio, but buy it from one of the other sellers, not Amazon Several other reviewers had a problem with the volume control on this clock radio. It looked like Amazon received a bad lot. Those reviews were all months old, so I figured that the bad stock would be gone by now. I was wrong. I really like this clock radio, which is why it's so frustrating that the volume knob on mine spins freely and doesn't work, too. I like it so much that I've agreed to try another one from Amazon, hoping that they'll ship from a different warehouse. Here's why I like it: 1) The entire top of the clock is the snooze button. If I'm so tired that I hit snooze, I really appreciate having a large target to aim for. 2) The clock is taller than it is wide (or deep, whatever.) It doesn't take up much space on my small nightstand. 3) I like the blue LCD. The brightness knob also doesn't seem to work, but the display is bright enough anyway. 4) Aux in will be nice to have when (if) I get a unit with a working volume button. When I'm working in the bedroom I'll be able to listen to my MP3 player. 5) The knobs on the back to set the time and alarm times are very easy to grip and use. That's not so important to me, but could matter to someone with arthritis in their hands. The volume is set to zero on mine, so I have no idea how this thing sounds. If I could start over I'd go up to the "(number) new & used" link at the top, and buy from another seller. My pick would be Adorama--I've been buying from them for years and they've been fantastic. 3/30/09 UPDATE: The new one is here, and it works. I really like it. I noticed that there was much more packaging inside the box and it was packaged more neatly, which makes me wonder if the first one I got was someone else's defective return. I'd change my review to 5 stars if I could. The sound is about what you'd expect for this price range--it sounds a little tinny, but it's definitely good enough for the morning news and for podcasts. The LCD brightness can be turned up to bathe the room in gentle blue light, or turned down to let you sleep in near darkness. I like the style, and while I had it in the kitchen a friend walked in and commented that she really liked it. If you can get a working radio, this is a good one. I love mine... Obviously, after reading about the broken volume and brightness knobs on some of these radios, I felt that I was taking my life in my hands to order one...but, mine works just great and I love it. I will order a second one today. One does need to read the instructions for turning on and off the AUX input feature when using it with the sleep switch... I really like having my audio books read to me when going to sleep -- both devices can be put on Sleep. This radio has above average tuning sensitivity. I have it in a spot in my home where 3 other radios or clock radios have either failed to tune in our station or have to have the tuning constantly adjusted, but this clock radio works well. I agree with some other reviewers that the clock is a bit bright, even on its dimmest setting, but one can always put something over it. For functionality at the price and attractive looks and geat tuning sensitivity I give it 5 stars.

I'm Impressed! I received this item as a gift from my company. I've been looking for a docking station for my iPod. I've tried testing many docking stations, many of which produced a rich vibrant sound. This was my strongest criteria in a docking station. I unpacked this unit with the impression that I would sell it on Ebay, as it was a company gift. WAS I EVER WRONG! The sound this unit produces is everything I wanted and more. I will admit the unit "looks" like a 1950s throw back, but dont let looks fool you. You will enjoy this unit! Best alarm clock I've ever had. USE: Every aspect of the design of this device was extremely well thought out. Every task is exactly as easy or difficult as it should be. The buttons to change the time are less convenient so that the time cannot be reset accidently. Setting individual alarms and changing them quickly (and with the rooms lights off) is absolutely easy when awake but more difficult when groggy. The clock face is very easy to read but not bright enough to be disturbing. The time numbers are large enough to be read from across the room, though in a room with a lot of daytime glare, this may be more difficult to do. Again, I think the legibility is exactly what it should be for an item placed next to the bed. The options for the two alarms are wonderful and include a volume (independent of the playing volume as well as of the other alarm) as well as choice of sound source. Changing a time setting takes only a few seconds. Alarm times (if alarms are active for the day) are displayed on the face of the clock, so there is no fumbling to find out if the alarm is set or for what time. The snooze alarm is unique. It appears to be vibration oriented and the clock is snoozed by slapping, bumping or smacking the clock anywhere on the clock body. It works wonderfully as a snooze and is the same method used to mute the device when used to play music or sounds. (During setup, I kept muting the sound accidently before I understood what was happening.) A simple tap unmutes the device again. Pretty nice feature. SETUP: I thought the controls for the clock looked a bit daunting at first, so I originally just plugged it in to make sure it work. Just fiddling with it with no reference to the instructions, I set every option on it within 15 minutes, I kid you not. For almost any feature, once you begin to set things, the clock displays a menu of what to do next and how to change options. Most options are set by slightly rotating the large metal dial surrounding the clock face. The backup batteries (in case of power out) do require a small screwdriver to access, but again, I feel this is an advantage as this protects the batteries from being accidently dislodged. SOUND & APPEARANCE: The look of this clock is FANTASTIC. It is a real wood veneer, is very heavy and has a general feel of quality. The look is somewhat retro, however it clearly has every modern convenience. With the hardiness of it's construction, I have even used this as a "portable" player during a commercial exhibition event. The sound was adequately loud and adjustable by small enough degrees to be able to control just the amount of sound. For home audio use, the quality is as good as one could ever expect for such a compact device. The clock feet are a soft (but very firmly attached) rubber (likely to assist with the snooze/mute activiation). This helps isolate the radio and prevents it from causing any vibrations of the surface below it. I've used the dock with both iPod and iPhone and both work splendidly. The docking seat could be more secure, but with the clock in a moderately protected location, I'm unconcerned with this. The only item about the device that I would like to see different would be an upgrade to the materials used in the small control knobs on top. They are the only items made of plastic on the clock and they do feel more lightweight in comparison to the exceptional sturdy construction of this clock. Time will tell how they hold up. RECOMMENDATION: While expensive, the cost is well-justified. I'm thrilled with my purchase and plan on buying one for each place I stay regularly. If an alarm clock is an important item for you, you will not be disappointed with this selection. Very nice design I received mine last week after ordering through Amazon. It was shipped from J&R Music and was only shipped in a plastic bag rather than a protective external box. There were a few dings on the box but the item seemed intact. The clock has a very solid feel and a warm full sound. The options for its function are very adequate. The brightness of the image can easily be adjusted. The cool factor is much enhanced by adjustment made by turning the round metal face ring. It has a solid feel and clicks with each fraction of a turn. I quickly set 4 radio stations just to see how it works and discovered with great pleasure that changing stations is instantly accomplished by just turning the ring one click. That may not sound like much but it really is a GREAT feature. I haven't tried it with my ipod yet but expect it to be just as impressive. Finally replacing my 20 year old "Dream Machine".

Amazon Sales Rank: #16254 in Consumer Electronics Color: Silver Brand: Sony Model: ICFC492 Dimensions: 2.00 pounds
Wake up in style with the Sony ICF-C492 AM/FM clock radio. Outfitted with a jumbo 1.4-inch green LED display, variable brightness control, an analog AM/FM tuner--and yes, a big honkin' snooze bar--this handy companion is sure to get you going in the morning. The space-conscious design is attractive and stylish, with a modern aesthetic that takes up hardly any space on the nightstand. The large display is also a plus, as it makes it easy to tell time from a distance--a particular bonus for people with poor vision. Households with more than one sleeper will appreciate the dual alarm, which allows two separate people to wake at different times without resetting the alarm. And should you need a more abrupt noise than the radio can provide, the ICF-C492 offers both loud and soft buzzer alarms. Additional features include a sleep timer and a memory backup function that preserves the clock and alarm settings should the power go out (requires 9-volt battery). The clock radio measures 7.88 by 4 by 4.38 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box Clock radio, user's manual.
A good value. My trusty old Sony alarm clock's radio selectivity was getting on my nerves, and the cheap General Electric model I chose to replace it did not measure up. Fortunately, this new Sony easily surpasses both its older brand-mate as well as the ergonomically-botched offering from GE. Advantages include precise, dial-adjustable display brightness, better radio reception and selectivity, and simple controls for sleepyheads to understand and operate. Audio is clear but undistinguished--about what one would expect from a clock radio. Nevertheless, for such a low price that is forgiveable. User-UNfriendly, but still decent .. Since most of the other reviewers have been gushing over this alarm clock, I thought I'd post with a few annoyances: - This thing has two alarms, but you can't have both of them set to buzzer. One has to be set to radio and the other to buzzer. This is aggrevating. - Like almost every other alarm clock in existence, the button to turn off the alarm is hard to find, while the snooze button is the size of Jupiter. If you enlarge the image of the clock on this site, you'll see three buttons on the lower right below the display. The one in the MIDDLE is the one that turns off the alarm. Yeah, good luck finding that button in the dark at 6:30am. I guess the engineers who build these things don't actually USE alarm clocks, or else they wouldn't do STUPID things like this. - Having the dimmer as a dial rather than a switch means you have much more control over brightness. However, the little indicator that lights up when you set the alarm is brigther than the time display itself. So while you may be able to get the display just right, the alarm indicator will be just a tad brighter than you want it. It's not a huge problem, but just another minor gripe. - The snooze on mine goes off every 7 minutes when pressed. (Why 7? I have no idea.) I have lost the manual and can't verify this (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong), but I haven't found any way to reprogram this. On my older alarm clock (which, unfortunately, had no dimmer switch), I could set it to 5 minutes, or whatever I wanted. Sad to say, but I think this is the best alarm clock I've seen so far. My search for a good alarm clock doesn't suck will go on ... Great dimmer, easy to set, always works This is the fourth alarm clock I have tried in the last year, and this one is a keeper! I wanted a dual alarm that I could set very quiet since I am a light sleeper. I was shocked that two brand new alarm clocks I bought simply did not work right. I would set the alarm and it would not go off. This one works every time. The dimmer on the display is great. I had one alarm clock that I had to drape with a cloth because it was so bright. That pretty much defeats the purpose. There's no need for a drop cloth with this clock. The one little complaint that I have is that the dual alarm has one alarm on music and one alarm on buzzer. You can not have two different alarm settings that both play music. This isn't as bad as I thought, though, because the alarm time is very easy to chage, yet you can't accidentally change it by bumping into it. The radio reception is even good.
